Girls on the Run Nashville Announces Baptist Sports Medicine as Presenting Sponsor for May 5, 2012, 5k Race
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Girls on the Run Nashville announced today that Baptist Sports Medicine will be the presenting sponsor for the group’s 5k race to be held May 5, 2012, at Shelby Park. The event will be now known as the “Girls on the Run 5k Presented by Baptist Sports Medicine.” This will be the fourth annual spring 5k event for Girls on the Run Nashville.
Girls on the Run Nashville is a non-profit organization that conducts an afterschool program in the Spring and Fall for third- through eighth-grade girls. Volunteer coaches use running to help prepare girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living. The character-building program focuses on developing self-esteem and confidence and improving physical and emotional health. More than 120 girls will celebrate the conclusion of the 12-week spring season by running 3.1 miles together with their parents, teachers and community members at Shelby Park in East Nashville.
“Baptist Sports Medicine physicians, therapists and trainers are committed to keeping Middle Tennesseans active and performing at their best, but more than that, the organization understands the importance of cultivating the health and wellness of women and girls in our community,” said Jessica Bliss, Past President of the Board of Directors and a volunteer who introduced Girls on the Run Nashville to Baptist Sports Medicine. “The support of such a respected health care institution in Nashville will be invaluable to our organization, and together we will create an unforgettable Girls on the Run 5k experience, while continuing to provide the tools for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy, active living.”
Ronn Hollis, executive director of Baptist Sports Medicine, a part of Saint Thomas Health, said, “The mission of Baptist Sports Medicine aligns with the goals of Girls on the Run in that we believe physical activity helps build well-balanced and well-rounded individuals. We’re pleased to support an organization that provides such positive opportunities for Greater Nashville’s young women.”
