The Cause

Girls on the Run (GOTR) Nashville is a 12-week after school program that uses the power of running to provide 3rd-8th grade girls with the necessary tools to embrace their individual strengths and prevent at risk behavior. Trained volunteer coaches lead twice-weekly after-school sessions, guiding and mentoring girls through fun activities designed to change the way the girls see themselves. The health and wellness curriculum combines training for a 5k (3.1 mile) event with self-esteem enhancing lessons that cover topics such as healthy decisions, peer pressure, bullying, body image and the media, the value of cooperation, and community service. The non-competitive program emphasizes positive attitudes and perseverance and celebrates each girl as she strives to do her best. Our mission is to inspire, educate and prepare girls for a lifetime of self-respect, positive relationships and healthy, active living.
