Girls on the Run Nashville is a Nashville Predators Foundation grant recipient and one of its four featured charities for the 2010-2011 season.

On April 9, the Foundation distributed 117 grants totaling $305,000 to Middle Tennessee-based community service and charitable organizations. In addition, four featured charities were selected from hundreds of applicants.

As one of those selected charities, Girls on the Run Nashville will benefit from organizational visits by players and Predators personalities, as well as added exposure, awareness and visibility for the charity through the hockey organization.

This is the second time Girls on the Run Nashville received funding from the Nashville Predators. This year, the Predators Foundation grant will fund 12 scholarships for girls at our East Park Community Center program, as well as purchase new program curriculum for all of our Davidson and Williamson county sites.

“To be honored as one of the Foundation’s featured charities is humbling,” Board Chair Jessica Bliss said. “The support will allow us to reach more girls in the Nashville area, giving them the tools for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living.”

In 2009, a foundation grant supported the formation of the East Park program with scholarship aid for girls from Lockeland Elementary School and Meigs Magnet School. It was an important part of Girls on the Run’s expansion, helping the organization grow from 15 girls in its inaugural 2007 season to 84 girls in seven Davidson and Williamson county programs in Spring 2010.

“Girls on the Run Nashville has already greatly benefited from the generosity of the Predators Foundation,” Bliss said. “As a product of the Predators support, the young ladies at our East Park Community Center program have experienced the energy, personal achievement, and confidence building principles that embody our organization. We greatly look forward to strengthening our relationship with the Predators this year.”

The Predators Foundation has awarded more than $2.5 million since its 1998 inception.
