Girls on the Run Nashville Prepare for May 10th 5k Race
On May 10th, twenty-one Girls on the Run (GOTR) participants will line up at the start line of the Rescue Run 5k at Nashville’s Centennial Park beginning at 7: 30 A.M. The eight to ten year-old girls, along with their adult “Running Buddies”, aim to complete the 3.1-mile race. Race proceeds will benefit the Nashville Rescue Mission. Prior to the race, the girls will also complete a community project benefiting the Rescue Mission.

The 12-week Girls on the Run® (GOTR) program provides girls with the skills necessary to not only cross a 5k finish line, but more importantly, skills for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living. GOTR’s mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of young girls. The curriculum addresses all aspects of girls’ development — their physical, emotional, mental, social and spiritual well-being. The girls meet twice a week after school, learning life skills through running games and workouts.
Upon completion of the spring program, GOTR Nashville will expand and offer the program during both fall and spring seasons. The 2008 fall program will be held at Percy Priest Elementary School beginning in September.
