Welcome to Girls on the Run® Nashville

Inaugural program began in Fall 2007.

Girls on the Run® (GOTR) Nashville and Girls on Track® (GOT) Nashville are 12-week after school programs for 3rd through 6th grade girls. The program uses the power of running to help prepare girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living. Through interactive activities such as playing games, running, discussing health, wellness and other important issues, participants learn how to celebrate being girls. The girls are empowered with a greater self-awareness, a sense of achievement and a foundation in team building to help them become strong, confident, well-balanced young women.

Each session is led by trained female coaches who guide and mentor girls through a fun and uplifting curriculum. Coaches teach specific life lessons such as dealing with body image and the media, resisting peer pressure, making healthy decisions and contributing to the community. Along the way, the girls train for a 5k (3.1 mile) run/walk event in which they participate as a group. Anecdotal evidence indicates an improved sense of identity, self-esteem, body image, eating attitudes and an increasingly active lifestyle.Save the Date for the Second Annual New Balance GOTR 5K

New Balance Girls on the Run 5K
On May 9, 2009, GOTR Nashville's inaugural New Balance 5k was a rousing success! Despite tornado warnings the previous night and a thunderous, early-morning downpour, the rains stopped just in time for the start. By the time the storms reappeared, it was too late to turn around. The girls enjoyed splashing through the puddles, and so many race participants and spectators commented on the GOTR camaraderie, enthusiasm, encouragement and wet fun.

Congratulations to the girls and everyone who participated and helped support our special day.

Fall Program is Going Strong! October 19, 2009
The Fall Program is Going Strong!
Our fall season is in full swing and we’re having a blast. This season we have six programs, which is double what we had from last year! In addition to continuing the programs from last year at Percy Priest Elementary and Guild Elementary, there is now a Girls on Track program at Rucker Stewart in Gallatin and a 5th and 6th grade-only GOTR program at JT Moore Middle. And as you’ll read in Jennifer’s blog, we are absolutely thrilled about our first GOTR/Metropolitan Nashville Parks and Recreation collaboration at East Park Community Center, which is sponsored by a grant from the Nashville Predators Foundation.
