I am so thankful that organizations like Girls on the Run exist to teach our girls to be joyful, healthy and confident and to boldly pursue their dreams. The beautiful thing about Girls on the Run is that not only do we inspire our girls but everyday our girls inspire us! We all are on this journey together to live our best lives, encouraging one another along the way.
Girls on the Run is an amazing organization that truly empowers young girls to believe in themselves, and the potential they have to make change in their communities. I am so glad that I have the privilege to support this organization in developing girls who know they are free to boldly pursue their dreams!
Girls on the Run is a nonprofit I wholeheartedly believe in! I am excited to support this inspirational organization, one that reminds girls of their limitless potential!
“I love that GOTR is about so much more than running, the impact our coaches and running buddies make on the lives of these young girls is unparalleled. That fact that we can use wellness as a catalyst, that makes it even more special.”
Alex Dugan is an attorney at Bradley Arant Boult Cummings LLP. "My favorite part of girls on the run is watching the girls' faces when they cross the finish line at the 5K and realize that all of their hard work during the season paid off."
Tamara Austin is a Director in the Strategic Resource Group at HCA. “I’ve been a GOTR Running Buddy and one day hope to be a coach as well. I fell in love with running just a few years ago. GOTR allows me the opportunity to see the same love – and all of its amazing benefits – grow for all of the girls.”
While my favorite experiences with GOTR have been volunteering as a running buddy or cheering on fellow runners at water stops, I also love to see how this organization brings together such an impressive and diverse group of people interested in developing confident young girls. Having served on the board since 2012, I hope to stay involved with GOTR for many more years to come. Next time you see me, ask me to do a cartwheel, but be ready to do one yourself.
Corrie Anderson is in charge of Creative Development at 10Boom. “My favorite part of GOTR is being a coach! I love watching the girls grow over the season! It is incredible to see their self-confidence increase and their relationships form as they support each other over the season. I love their goofy warm-up ideas, and their heart-felt discussion contributions. I love watching them use tools they’ve learned from Girls on the Run without even realizing it. When I leave practice, I feel joyful and empowered. I’m not sure who gets more out of GOTR, me or the girls?”
Melissa Berrier is the Owner of Sharper Edge Professionals. “I love the idea of mentoring young women. Also, I love being a part of a non-profit at the earliest stages and watching it grow as others in the community see its positive impact on young women.”
Jennifer Berry is a Manager of Clinical Business Solution Analysis at Hospital Corporation of America (HCA). "The mission of GOTR is inspiring and one I truly believe in. I believe we should support and encourage one another and this wonderful organization ensures that girls learn that early in life. Running began as an outlet for me and has turned into a hobby I truly enjoy. It's been so fun to be a 5k running buddy and it's great to see a girl smiling when she crosses the finish line and sees her friends cheering for her!"
Mary Taylor Gallagher is a Lawyer at Gullett, Sanford, Robinson and Martin, PLLC. “It is vitally important for young girls to develop a healthy self-esteem and learn to take care of their bodies. Running is a lifelong companion that can travel with you wherever you may go in life.”
Shanna Hughey is the Senior Advisor at the Office of Mayor Karl Dean. “Sports—running included—changed my life for the better when I was growing up. As an adult, I relish the chance to help another girl discover through sports that she’s much stronger than she might think.”

Jennifer Schott is a Songwriter at Parallel Music Publishing. “I love seeing the girls have fun while working hard towards a goal and then accomplish it! As a runner, I think it’s great to see the girls starting out young learning about healthy lifestyles, team-building, body image, etc. The lessons from GOTR can be applied throughout a lifetime!”
Adam Sumrall is a Physician Relations Account Manager at Saint Thomas Health: My involvement with Girls on the Run stems from my wife’s involvement. She introduced me to the program, and I have been eager to help in any fashion possible ever since. The one word in the GOTR’s mission statement that stands out to me the most is “inspire.” The effort to inspire young lives is what makes GOTR great to me.
